Who are we?
We are married couple Kalum and Hemi, the creators of the travel blog “Magnificent Sri Lanka”. We are residing in Kandy – one of the mesmerizing, cultural, and historical cities in the country. Both of us are blessed to be born and raised in this wonderful country and fortunate to experience the beauty of this lovely island. We want to share our stories, tips, and experiences on our blog “Magnificent Sri Lanka”.

Meet Kalum
Hi Guys! Welcome to our blog Magnificent Sri Lanka.! I am Kalum, a Senior Lecturer, researcher, and innovative entrepreneur in the daytime, a blogger in my free time. I was born at the center of beautiful Hill Country in Sri Lanka, Nuwara Eliya. After graduating from the University of Ruhuna in Matara, I moved to Japan for my Post Graduate studies. I completed my Master’s (2005) and Doctoral (2008) degrees at Tohoku University, Sendai, while enjoying the lovely cherry blossom and visiting wonderful destinations in Japan. After completing my Doctoral degree, I joined Kyoto University as a researcher and got the opportunity to visit many historical sites and ancient temples in Kyoto.
Later I moved to Singapore and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at one of the world’s best universities called Nanyang Technological University and US company Albani Molecular Research Inc (AMRI Global) which is a contract research and manufacturing organization that provides drug discovery.
During these journeys, I met a lot of new friends, I shared my experience with marvelous places and wonderful attractions I visited in my own country. I wanted to share our insider knowledge, so visitors can experience Sri Lanka comfortably as a local. After many years later, our dream of starting a local travel guide about Sri Lanka became true and the result is this travel blog.
Meet Hemi
Hi Guys! Thanks a lot for visiting the about us page. I am Hemi working as a freelancer in the daytime and blogging during my leisure time. The historical city of Galle is where I was born and raised. I studied at Southlands College, the most prestigious girls’ college in Galle Fort, Southern Sri Lanka. The University of Ruhuna at Matara was my alma mater, which I graduated from the faculty of Science. Then I moved to Japan with my husband for my postgraduate studies. I completed my Master’s Degree in Computational Chemistry from Tohoku University.
Later I joined Kyoto University in Japan as a research assistant and worked there for two years. The next major milestone of my life was joining Nanyang Technological University, in Singapore as a research associate. I met a lot of new friends during these wonderful journeys. What I found there was, they were so curious about Sri Lanka. The language, the food, as well as about Sri Lankan people and lifestyle. At that time, we got the idea of starting a travel blog to help many others to learn about everything in Sri Lanka. We want to help visitors to learn about many hidden attractions and local travel tips.
