Our Expat Life and Sweet Memories in Abroad

This page is dedicated to share our sweet memories of our world travel experiences. We spent 10 years of our expat life abroad. We did our postgraduate studies at Tohoku University, Japan. Therefore, we lived in Japan for 8 years in Sendai and Kyoto cities. We visited many beautiful places and ancient temples during our stay in Japan.

Later, we moved to Singapore as researchers and lived there for 2 years until moving back to Sri Lanka. Since we have visited many places in Japan and Singapore, we have an extensive collection of wonderful photographs of the places we visited. We hope to share the details of our world travel and pictures of these lovely places on this page.

Sendai

We lived in Sendai city for 5 years, while studying at Tohoku University. It was a very nice experience to visit many lovely attractions in Sendai city. We were blessed to see the spectacular cherry blossom in Sendai and will share the marvelous sceneries and wonderful attractions in the city. In addition, we could see several great festivals, as well as ancient temples during our stay in Sendai.

We lived in Kyoto, the city of temples for 3 years while working at Kyoto University as researchers. We got the chance to see many ancient temples and fascinating places including this photogenic Bamboo grove in Arashiyama. Furthermore, we enjoyed lovely cherry blossoms and epic fall colors in Kyoto city.

Nara

Nara is a calm and serene place with lots of completely sociable deer who are roaming freely in the city. We visited Todaiji Temple and many other top attractions in Nara during our travel to this beautiful city.

Yamagata

Yamagata is the closest city to Sendai and we visited there several times. Zao crater is one of the most visited attractions in Yamagata city.

Tokyo

Tokyo is the capital of Japan and we visited there for many purposes, including attending conferences, as well as sightseeing. We could visit Odaiba -the best sightseeing spot in Tokyo during our travel. In addition, we visited Tokyo Disneyland which gave us an unforgettable memory in our life.

Kobe city is a famous attraction for its annual Luminaria and port city.

Hiroshima

We visited the atomic bomb ruins (Genbaku-Dome) and the museum. It was a sad experience to see the belongings of atomic bomb victims at the museum. Definitely, Hiroshima is a must-visit place in Japan. You can find our guide to Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park here.

We could visit the Himeji Castle during the cherry blossom season. It was an unforgettable experience in our life. The stunning beauty of cherry blossom in Himeji Castle still remains a golden memory in our hearts.

Singapore

We lived in Singapore for 2 years, while working as researchers at Nanyang Technological University, one of the leading universities in Asia. We got the chance to see many famous spots in Singapore during our stay.
