Universal Studio is a theme park locates in the heart of Resorts World Sentosa, Singapore. This is a large amusement park spread around a huge area of 20 hectares. Many thrilling rides in seven major themed zones are waiting for you to explore in Universal Studio. It is one of the top family attractions in Singapore, where both adults and kids can enjoy a lot.

Visiting Universal Studio was one of the most enjoyable journeys in our expat life in Singapore. Since we already visited Jurong Bird Park, we decided on our next destination as Universal Studio in Sentosa Island. We enjoyed the fun-filled activities a lot and had a great time in the park. If you are touring in Singapore city, Universal studio is a marvelous place completely worthy of your visit.

Access to Universal Studio

You can reach Universal Studio easily by North East MRT and alighting at Harbourfront station. This is the final station in the line. Then go to the Vivo City mall, where you can take the monorail train to reach Sentosa Island.

If you like to enjoy sceneries around, you can come out from Vivo City mall and walk along the boardwalk to Sentosa Island. Since we liked sightseeing, we opted to walk along the boardwalk.

It was fun and gave us a nice view of the area including a distant sight of famous landmarks in Sentosa island. We could see the cable cars flying above in the sky while walking on the boardwalk. Cable cars are another convenient way to reach Sentosa island from the mainland.

Visitors can select either monorail, walking, or cable cars to reach Sentosa Island. It takes only a few minutes to go there by any of these methods.

Universal Studio has seven major zones: Hollywood, New York, Sci-Fi City, Ancient Egypt, The Lost World, Far Far Away, and Madagascar.

Entrance of Universal Studio

It isn’t difficult to find Universal Studios by walking a short distance along Sentosa island. You’ll see the rotating globe, the most iconic sight of Singapore Universal Studio at the entrance. Taking a snap before this rotating globe is a highly famous thing not to miss during your trip.

After passing this iconic globe, you can enter the park and reach the seven major theme areas. Each zone of the park is featuring its own attractions, restaurants, and retail stores. Now let’s explore each zone and enjoy the best sceneries captured in our lens.

Here we are going to share our experiences and tips to arrange your trip to Universal Studio. Read and find out about each attraction and how to get the most out of your journey to this amazing park in Singapore.

1. Hollywood

Hollywood is the main entrance area of the park. It is accompanied by several restaurants and a variety of shops. This zone is filled with Hollywood-inspired architecture and a boulevard lined by palm trees. The only attraction you’ll find here is a Broadway-style theatre.

We found a gorgeous, yellow-colored racing car parked on the side of the street. This was one of Transformers AUTOBOTS on display and it was a hugely famous photogenic spot among the visitors.

2. New York City 

This area is based on the original New York City, during the era of post-modernization. The zone features various landmarks commonly portrayed in movies including the city skyline, neon lights, facades, and sidewalks. This zone also has a replica of the New York Public Library.

3. Sci-Fi City 

The major attraction in Sci-Fi city is Battlestar Galactica: Human vs. Cylon. It is a pair of dueling roller coasters, colored in blue and red. The red one is a traditional seated roller coaster, while the blue one is an inverted roller coaster track.  It reaches 42.5 meters in height and they are the tallest dueling coasters in the world.

You may choose between Cylon and Human. The human roller coaster is exciting, it may reach a high speed up to 90 km/h. Cylon, the blue inverted track is more challenging. It suits best for people who are fearless for height. If you like adrenaline-filled activities and a genuine thrill seeker, Battlestar Galactica Cylon is a wonderful adventure to try in Universal Studio.

4. Ancient Egypt 

Egyptian zone is based on the historical adaptation of Ancient Egypt. It features Egyptian gods, pyramids, and Pharaohs’ tombs which can see in Egypt. This zone mainly relies on the depictions made in the popular film, The Mummy.

In this theme area, you’ll find an enclosed steel roller coaster locates in an indoor space. It calls as Revenge of the Mummy: The Dark Ride.

You’ll find a big retail outlet in this zone called Carter’s Curiosities here. It is a shop selling souvenirs and replicas of Egyptian treasures.

5. The Lost World 

You can enter the Lost World through huge Jurassic Park gates. The lost world divides into two sub-areas: Jurassic Park and Waterworld.

Jurassic Park zone is based on the popular film by Steven Spielberg. It features several Jurassic Park adventures. First, you’ll meet a canopy flyer, that is a glider-style roller coaster. There you can fly through the Lost World section at a high speed. It gives a bird’s eye view of all of the magnificent scenery and dinosaurs presented in the Lost World area.

Another major attraction in Lost World is River Rapids Ride that features a white-water raft system, where riders on circular rafts are sent down a rapid water flow system. These circular rafts are huge, where 9 people can board same time. Riders can enjoy the view of different Dinosaurs and also water splashes from them.

We enjoyed this thrilling attraction very much. But the water splashes were too strong and our clothes get totally wet. The chances are high that you will get drenched with the rapid waves. Except that, this is a quite interesting attraction suits best for the whole family.

Waterworld, based on the film Waterworld features a live show performance at an amphitheater. This is a great show even kids can entertain a lot. It is important to select the best seats to watch the performance comfortably, without getting wet by water splashes.

6. Far Far Away 

The landmark of this zone is Far Far Away Castle. This is a beautiful castle, looks quite similar to the one you’ll see in Tokyo Disneyland.

Far far away theme inspired by DreamWorks Animation Shrek 4-D film. There you’ll find quite famous characters including Shrek, Donkey, Princess Fiona and many more.

River Rapid Adventure .

This was an exciting opportunity to feel the action from your seat. It completes with jumps, bumps, bounces, blasts that bring the action to life. The extra dimension of special effects brings through the miracle of Ogre Vision glasses. This is one of the most enjoyable experiences we had in Universal Studio.

7. Madagascar

This zone was inspired by the DreamWorks Animation Madagascar. The main attraction at the Madagascar Zone is Madagascar: A Crate Adventure ride. You can enjoy a water boat ride along an indoor waterway, which is adorned by characters including Alex, Gloria, King Julien, and many more.

This riverboat ride goes through a tropical jungle featuring the voices of each character. Since we were big fans of the animation movie Madagascar, this ride was very interesting to us. The voices of them were quite familiar to us and it was a fun-filled ride through the wilderness of the jungle.

This fun ride is best for children and fans of the show. If you are traveling with your kids, this is one of the most enjoyable attractions not to miss in Universal Studio.

Meet & Greet

There are meet & greet photo opportunities throughout the park, with some of your favorite characters. You need to keep a look for them, as you wander around the park. We could get some interesting snaps of this Egyptian man and dancing woman in the park.

It’s getting dark.

If you are going to Universal Studio, make sure you have a whole day to spend there. Since there are many wonderful attractions to see, it needs plenty of time to enjoy all of them. If you only have a few hours or half a day, it might not enough to see everything in the park. The amazing entertainment activities in the park will give you a truly memorable experience. Hope you guys will enjoy the magical shows and attractions in Singapore Universal Studio someday!
