Adorned with gorgeous tulip fields, Michinoku Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Sendai city. It is a beautifully landscaped public garden spread over 650 hectares of area. This park locates in a dramatic location along the Lake Kamafusa and majestic Zao Mountains in the background. The view of colorful tulips among the beautiful surrounding is a completely worthy sight to witness. It is a top sightseeing spot you shouldn’t miss while touring in Japan.

The Michinoku tulip festival is one of the great festivals in the whole Tohoku region. This festival starts in the spring of each year and runs from the end of April to mid-May. During this period, the park becomes a heavenly flower paradise filled with thousands of colorful tulips. Since this time is the golden week holiday in Japan, lots of Japanese visitors flock there to enjoy the tulip festival.

Certainly, Michinoku Park is the most beautiful place we have ever visited in Sendai city. We enjoyed the tulip festival several times and we have a big collection of lovely snaps in Michinoku Park. Here we are going to share them with you in this post.

Access to Michinoku Park

Michinoku Park is located in Kawasaki city, approximately one hour drive from Sendai town. If you are using a car, there is a large parking area available in the park.

If you are using the bus, there is 80 minutes ride from Sendai Station. You need to board the Akiu-Kawasaki Sendai Seibu Liner bus, bound for Kawasaki-machi. Alight at Michinoku Koenguchi and the park is just a few minutes walk from there.

Here we are going to show you the major attractions in Michinoku Park and the lovely snaps captured through our lens.

1. Central Flower Garden

As soon as you enter the park, the elegantly landscaped central flower garden is awaiting you. This picturesque area offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy the beauty of glorious tulip blooms. Undoubtedly, this is the most picture-perfect area of the park.

Filled with colorful blooms, this park offers an eye-pleasing view to the visitors. The combination of different shades of tulips arranged in unique patterns is lovely scenery.

The central flower garden of Michinoku Park spreads over a vast area. You can relax while looking at the 7000 m2 area of flower beds containing different kinds of tulips.

Over 100,000 tulips plants grow in the park each spring season. As well, the flower beds arrange by expert horticulturists with different varieties of tulips.

There are several water streams and beautiful fountains in this area. Sprinkling a mist of water, these fountains help to cool the air in the park. You’ll get many opportunities to capture lovely snaps of different fountains in Michinoku Park.

We enjoyed the breathtaking sight of thousands of different colored Tulips. Certainly, they were elegantly arranged in lovely patterns. We captured many beautiful shots of gorgeous tulip blooms.

2. Kamafusa Lake

One of the unique features of Michinoku Park is surrounding Kamafusa Lake and the lovely water stream running through the park. There are a number of different shape bridges over the stream.  These photogenic places are a viewer’s delight that enhances the aesthetic value of the park.

The park is bordered by a line of Sakura trees around the beautiful Lake Kamafusa. They were closer to the end of the cherry blossom season. We could see a rain of Sakura petals in the high wind, showing the end of Sakura season.

The calm and serene lakeside is a popular area of the park where you can enjoy a playful boat ride in Kamafusa Lake. The pink swan paddle boats are one of the major attractions among kids, Moreover, lots of small boats are available for people who like boating on the lake.

3. Children’s Play area

If you are accompanying young children, Michinoku Park is a wonderful destination for them. You’ll see this park is an extremely kid-friendly place with many attractions dedicated to children.

The extravagant playground has many interesting things to play with. Especially, the sand playing and water playing give excitement to children.

Furthermore, there are varieties of attractions, including ball pools, jumping balls, and many more. We could see this huge playground is the favorite place among children and they were having a happy family moment with their parents.

For the grown-up kids, there is an adventure playground with trampolines and zip wires. Above all, there is a colorful kids train where children can enjoy a fun-filled ride.  

4. Furusato Village

While you are walking in the park, you’ll meet a large area with traditional Japanese houses. This place called Furusatomura is an educational attraction for visitors. You can learn a lot about old Japanese houses by looking at the model houses displayed here.

This village is a recreation of authentic historical houses representing all six prefectures of the Tohoku region. All the houses in Furusatomura have thatched-roof and wooden walls. These houses are reconstructed according to the unique house types available in northern Japan.

In every house, you will find leaflets and guides to learn about the local Tohoku culture and the way of living. For instance, you can learn about how traditional houses were built in the past and how the regular people lived in the older days.

5. Wildflower Meadows

As you walk further into the park, you’ll see a picturesque area of wildflower meadows. Visitors can enjoy strolling these peaceful meadows filled with wildflowers. This picture-perfect place is ideal for enjoying the start of the spring in an absolutely comfortable place.

Wildflowers such as Cosmos and Canola welcome visitors with their striking views. The contrast of blue sky and brightly-colored wildflowers make wonderful scenery. Definitely, you can capture some gorgeous shots in these wildflower meadows.

Best time to visit Michinoku Park

The park is open year-round and you can visit there any time of the year. But the best time to visit Michinoku Park is during the Tulip festival. It starts at the end of April and lasts until mid-May. This is the peak season of Michinoku Park which offers many things to entertain the visitors.

Nevertheless, the scenery of the park change with the season. In each season, the park always offers a relaxing environment filled with different varieties of blooms.

To sum up, Michinoku Park is undoubtedly the most beautiful tulip paradise in Japan with its long stretches of vivid floral cover. It is a great place to spend the day with a picnic under the green trees, or just to relax watching the lovely blooms. There are plenty of picture-perfect places in this colorful, mind-blowing landscaped garden.
